I’ve talked about this show before, but I think it was on the previous blog iteration. It’s great. It’s one of my favorites from the past couple of years. (I know, I say that alot, but I wouldn’t lie) . It’s football, it’s Texas, and there are girls. You do not get better than that.
Another cool thing is its filmed in Austin. Austin actually has a pretty big connection with movies, and alot of the new popular directors film a lot their stuff here. Robert Rodriguez is from here, Quentin Tarantino does some stuff here etc… However, a TV show is different due to the length of time its filmed over, the actors actually have to call the city their home instead of just flying in and flying out. I’ve run into multiple members of the cast at the hot spots like the Alamo Drafthouse etc… and then there are a lot of tie-ins with the university and references on the show etc… so it’s cool. Actually, the reason I was reminded of FNL is because my bus had to take a detour today because of shooting at DKR Memorial Stadium.
Anyways, NBC has tried to cancel the show twice, after the first and second season due to ratings, and it has barely hung on. I believe the second season actually showed an upswing in viewers, but it somehow got this really strange deal put together to kill it. NBC sold the rights to the show to DirectTV. So, the first time an episode comes out its only on the satellite provider. “Later in the year” we are supposed to see it on NBC but it would have already been out for months and I’m sure its in some retarded 2 AM time slot. I have watched the shows online, and you can get them from other sources which I will let you decide on, but they are good. No visible drop in quality due to a smaller budget or anything like that, so its worth a watch if you like Texas, football and girls… which should be everyone.
