Bo Burnham is Blowing Up

I’m a Bo Burnham fan… which I wouldn’t have to tell you if you saw my favorites list. And Good ol’ Bo was just signed to be a writer for Judd Apatow’s next flick. Yes, that Judd Apatow, of Knocked Up, Superbad, Freaks & Geeks, 40 year old virgin fame… the comedy measuring stick for the last couple of years. Pretty good deal for an 18 year old to hook up with that kind of power after just a few years of filming himself in his room while still living with his parents. On his site he even mentions the camera sits on a stack of books because a tripod is too expensive… wow. Well, now he should have some cash.

Youtube finally makes someone rich who isn’t Chris Crocker or that Chocolate Rain Guy.

I did see him on one of the late late shows. I think it was Carson Daily so like a 3rd string show but still cool to see him on TV . Lyrics. Are . Ridiculous.

Check him out on TV : Bo is appearing on Spike’s show this Saturday night Oct 4th @ midnight on FOX

So Yesterday Was a Good Day for the Economy.

I woke up in the morning and heard the news anchor say the market was looking good due to some drop in oil… and come back from campus to screams and the gnashing of teeth all over msnbc.  Let me just say one thing… when I worked in the industry ( and by industry I mean my 3 month internship at A.G. Edwards) the market was doing fine. Since I left… well, not so much. Just an odd correlation. Maybe more than coincidence.

What are you doing this Tuesday, September 29th? You probably should be out renting today’s new releases on DVD Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Ironman. Ironman should be arriving on my doorstep via Netflix hoo-rah. Who’s down for a lil Robert Downey Party (not the dui or drug part) ?

Also on the agenda. More work on orangecampus.com so I can finalize it and get it up for my project on Friday. Tell me what you think of the design.

I just checked my page rank for the first time in a while and I am a 3. If I remember correctly the last time I checked was about 2 weeks after my relaunch so I was a big fat zero. I’m pretty happy with that, not that I overanalyze my analytics or anything… I don’t really care that much right now, but just a simple SEO package for wordpress has seemed to get the word out a little bit better.

Anyways, if you want to check out your own pr :

Watch Season Premieres of Dexter & Californication

The shows I have been on talking about for months are now back online. I might consider finally signing up for showtime because of them… but you can watch the season premier of both of them online right now via this handy dandy link. You do have to sign-up but its just that one page 3-field form. Then you are good to go.

While we are at it : From the director of In Pursuit of Happyness and more importantly starring Will Smith, comes another really good looking flick… in the same serious tone of Happyness but hopefully happier. Plus Rosario Dawson is not hard to look at for two hours. I can’t embed the trailer, so here you go :

Greatest. Weekend. Ever.

If you didn’t know it already Austin is sorta blowing up this weekend. First off Austin City Limits is going on, which brings in an absolutely ridiculous number of out of towners, and then due to the hurricane the longhorns vs. arkansas game was reschedule for this weekend, which is an old-school football rival. So it is the perfect storm of crazy events.

Then…. everyone in the country got to enjoy what is Oregon State beating # 1 USC. I don’t care who you are. If you live outside of California there is no better feeling than seeing USC get beat. Pete Carroll looks like a lost puppy running up and down the sidelines looking in every direction wondering what the hell happened. They don’t know what it is to be behind.  (Sidenote : Oregon State almost went down as one of the stupidest teams ever with students jumping onto the field with 3 minutes left and almost losing that game)

Then… # 4 Florida just got beat by Ole Miss, maybe even a bigger upset than USC. So we are talking about Texas finally being back into the top 5 as they are dismantling Arkansas 31 - 3 at halftime.

College football is awesome. Not to mention there is the little game of Dallas vs. Washington tomorrow that while early in the season is important since the NFC East is almost as stacked as the Big 12.

Update : Texas final 52-10 and the extra 7 they scored was pointless.

Total Upset List So Far:
OSU def. 1. USC
Maryland def. 20. Clemson
Mississippi def 4. Florida
Navy def. 16. Wake Forest
Michigan def. 9 Wisconsin

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.

Final Note. Jevon Snead, the guy who couldn’t cut it at Texas and lost out to Colt McCoy for QB is the QB for Ole Miss who knocked out Florida and moves us up in the ranking.

The Office Extras

Even if you watched the premiere… you didn’t see these. Cut scenes from Episode 1 : Weight Loss

The Rundown

Stream of consciousness:

Football :
WOOOOOO HOOOOOO USC lost to Oregon State. Now 4 Big 12 teams are in the top 10. Wow. Pretty much that guarantees a big 12 representative in the national championship, but at the same time, sucks for us that it is so competitive this year. I think the road to the ’ship runs through Dallas. If OU wins they have a clear shot. If Texas wins then we still have to take on Mizzou and Tech, two other top ten teams…. before the ever stressful game vs. A&M (even if they suck they show up for us). However, you have to love USC getting punked again. Hook ‘em.

Heroes : Season 1 was good. Parts of Season 3 intrigue me… but for the majority I am over with. They lost me with too many superhero powers. There is no certainty of death, everyone just seems to come back to life. Superhero series are good because of a balance of powers. (Silas straight up sticking his finger into Hayden’s brain was cool… along with a few other things)

The Office continues to impress.

It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia’s first episode (the return of green-man) was hilarious, the other one not so much.

Worst week is the worst show. Even though I really like that guy, it wasn’t a good episode.

Att U-verse is such a mixed bag it drives me crazy. I’ve complained about them many a times here and there. For the past week I have been up and down with service. Anywhere from 75-90% uptime which is absolutely unacceptable obviously. Combined Erik and I have spent 3+ hours on the phone with them, 2 techs have come out and a third coming tomorrow… if we don’t get it fixed this week we will be going back to Time Warner. Customer support continues to be terrible, but then we get to second tier and they are knowledgeable, helpful and want to solve the problem not just get a temporary fix I will have to call back about again.

Then they released the update today that lets you watch the recordings from the one DVR they give you on any of the other tv’s in the house. This was supposed to be included in our original package but the fact that we finally have it after 2 months adds a lot to the service actually.

The fact that the NBC affiliate has not renewed their contract with Time Warner and Austin will be losing NBC (including the office, and all other nbc programs) until that contract is renewed is a reason not to switch back. A similar holdout with a different station lasted 3 months earlier this year, thats the entire fall season.

I have spent the last 2 hours programming a website in VI that I could have done in half an hour with even notepad. I do not envy you old programmers. The mouse is a beautiful thing.

Currently my netflix has been throwing a bunch of The Wire in my direction since I have to watch it for my english class. I’m pretty hooked. Cop Dramas that try to emulate real life pale in comparison, it is gritty, well-written and all around awesome.

The Week In Review : Sep. 25th

If you missed it … Boxers are absolutely insane. Guy got a case of road rash on his pinkie so he did what any normal individual would do….

He went home, put towels over the kitchen table and blocked off a working area with several two-by-fours. He put gauze around the area and twisted soldering wire around his right pinkie to slow the flow of blood.

“Then I put a wood chisel on it and dropped a 15-pound weight on the chisel,” Robles said. “The piece shot out about six feet like a missile.”

Also, in sports I would like to congratulate Nate for having his Yankees miss the playoffs for the first time in 14 years. Meanwhile Joe Torre’s Dodgers are actually IN. Wowsers. The Rangers only exceeded expectations… at least we weren’t last place.

At the behest of Joshua Rivera, I need to emphasize how important it is that you watch It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, one of the funniest off-the-wall comedies on TV.

This is what I want for Christmas. Markus does a look at a video he found made entirely with Canon’s new DSLR. That’s right, a still-camera… it is really sick looking. Who has 3 grand for me?

Pretty funny Ricky Gervais vs. Steve Carrell at the Emmy’s.

I just started watching the original Office on Netflix. Funny, but not Steve Carrell funny. That is all. The Ofice STARTS TONIGHT.

Review : How I Met Your Mother

It seems like all I have been posting about lately is TV shows, but thats how it goes at the beginning of the fall seasons. This will be my last one I promise. However, I must re-iterate that you SHOULD be watching Fringe (tuesdays), The Office (premiere thurs.), and How I Met Your Mother which premiered yesterday. Those are the must-watches.

This is less of a review and more of a command to watch this show. The first 3 seasons are available on DVD and I would recommend you watch this one from the beginning because some of the jokes are cumulative. Seriously just sign up for the 2 week free trial of Netflix and the cheapest 5.95/month plan and get the first seasons at your doorstep. In 2 months you can watch the first 3 seasons for a total of 10 bucks.

If however, you are cheap, jump into season 4 you will get 90% of the laughs, and you can pick up the characters easy. Barney (Neil Patrick Harris aka Doogie Howser) is my favorite character on the show, so I bring you some of his greatest moments below.

Zune Visuals : Pulling It Off.

After reviewing Itunes last week I went back to the Zune Player and downloaded the newest version. Not going to do a full review right now since it has been done before, but I will show you some of the cool things they are doing visualizer wise.

As I expressed in the itunes review, visualizations are played-out, no one watches that except for the occasional house-party when you want to be hip.  So you are saying to me…. then why Tyler, WHY, would you comment on them? Because Micrsoft doesn’t see them as standalones, they integrate them into other parts of the player where functionality exists.

First off the player itself is so different in design, when you first load up the visualizer you get something along these lines :

Which looks cool on it’s own… (all those covers in the background are your collection.) but then it switches to this :

I mean come on … tell me those aren’t cool. I’m not actually sure where those images come from because they aren’t covers and it works when not connected to the internet, so I guess it just pulls them down and caches them somewhere. (Some info must come from the internet on each play, but at least some of it is saved) Anyways, it throws the colors on top of them along with stats like duration of song, info about artists etc… and anyways, it looks great. The images pan in and out , changes out, there are more than a couple. This is the type of visualizer I keep open all the time.

Also if you have used zune they have this sick “fire” that runs the bottom of the window throughout the program, settings / visualizer / playlists everywhere that keeps the beat to your music. It keeps the beat to your music and there is no way to describe it besides fire.

If your too lazy to download and install zune here is what it looks like :

Firefox UT Theme

To get my theme approved by Mozilla I actually have to have approval from the UT System, pretty official approval with contact numbers etc… So if any of you kids know someone in ITS that could help me get that, it would be awesome, otherwise my theme returns to the sandbox where it will never get the same exposure.

(It is currently semi-out of experimental and has been picked up by other software sites like softpedia. So getting it fully going would be great)

Link to Theme can be found in sidebar > Firefox Themes
